We recently had a chat with Second team skipper Abdul Samad, who has been skipper since 2017! He has seen a huge change in the club over the last six seasons. Samad has had an incredible career since joining the Brig in 2015, including a T20 Cup win and promotion in his 157 games for the club!

When asked about last season, the skipper said “We as a club has come a long way. Last year, we didn’t have a good season, we struggled with the bat and were loose in the field.” Balbriggan 2 finished sixth in Division 5 last year, with a number of the squad helping the First XI win the championship to gain promotion to the Premier league this year.

Positives to be taken

He added “We have taken plenty of positives from that season. We have seen a few of our young players stepping up and performing with the bat and ball. ” The likes of Steven Harper, Brian Dunphy and Cian Rooney who scored a 50 . His 1st 50 playing for 2nds which proved to be a winning knock.”
The experienced bowling attack helped the Brig grind out very important wins to ensure survival. “Our bowling unit of Ghulam Muhammad was very good throughout the season. Haris Syed as always was economical.”

My goal is to lead the team from the front and win the league to close the gap between 1s and 2s.

Everyone is enthusiastic. And having finally a full season after 2 years of gap. So everyone is looking forward to give 100%. “
