After losing the toss, Balbriggan were put in to bat first. A blistering start seen quick runs from Brian Dunphy (35 retired 4.2 overs) and Hassan Shahid (36 retired 9 overs). This partnership had Balbriggan ticking along nicely and by the 10th over they had put on 110 runs.
Izzy McLean, who was in at 3, batted really well and scored a quick fire 11. Aadi Wankhade (26) and Ryan Harper (13) added to the runs. Tom Harford (6) was unlucky not to get more runs before Kaelin Knight (13) and Fionn Bannister (21) came in and finished the job, batting outstandingly. After the 20 overs had been completed, Balbriggan brought it to a total of 173 including extras.
With a comfortable total to defend the bowlers put the pressure on North County from the word go and with some excellent bowling and fielding from all the players, kept County to 76 for 9 after 20 overs.
The Juniors may face tougher opposition in the coming weeks, but a win over local rivals North County is a great start to all seasons!
Taking a win over a very good Hills side. The game evolved into an absolute thriller!
Having won the toss, Balbriggan sent the Hills in to bat. The Hills got off to a great start with a mixture of good batting and mistakes in the field. Allowing the Hills to reach an impressive 149 for 7 after 20 overs.
The pick of our bowlers were Aadi Wankhade who bowled 2/23/4 and Fionn bannister with tidy figures of 1/11/2
The Balbriggan Colts knew they had a tough game on their hands. The Hills had, what looked like a massive total to chase.
Brian Dunphy (48) and Hassan Shahid (23) opened the batting. Again, they got us off to a super start. Cian Rooney (42 not out) came in at 3. He held the game together and showed real maturity in how he batted. Scoring some excellent runs along the way.
It was a nail biting finish with what looked like a mountain to climb needing 24 off the final 12 balls. However, Rooney really started going for it. Along with Aadi who hit the winning 4 in 19.5 overs. Seeing the Brigg over the line for a massive win.
The Colts showed great character to chase down such a big score. The hard work with Andre Botha, Chuka Uba and the coaches, to name but a few is really paying off
The game was played on Saturday morning before the First XI travelled to Kildare for their own game.
Batting first, Balbriggan had 5 of our batters retire on 29+ helping the Minor A team record a total of 227 runs from our 20 overs. The Batter retired are Brian Dunphy (33), Aadi Wankhade (33), Lorcan (30), Ryan Harper (31) and Killian Moore (30)
In the 2nd innings, Balbriggan managed to keep North Kildare to 53 for 5 off their 20 overs with Aadi bowling excellent again with figures of 3/2/3. A good team performance today and a special mention to Danann, Mustafa and Rohan playing their first game for the club ?
On to the next round of the Cup for the young guns of the Brigg
Our team captain Izzy McLean won the toss and sent Knockharley in to bat.
The bowling and fielding was really good today from our Junior B side. A special mention to James who was fantastic in the field and Tom who bowled some excellent overs.
Knockharley had some really strong batters and scored 129 for 7 off their 20 overs.
Fionn Bannister (21) and Aadi Wankhade (15) got us off to a really good start with the bat but it was our team Captain Izzy (26) who scored some excellent runs helped by Tom Shepherd (11) to set up a thriller of a final over with our team needing 3 off the last over for a win.
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Knockharley bowled a really tight last over and won the game.
The players done themselves and the club proud ?
Well done to all of our youth section in an amazing return to games this weekend! Plenty of promising starts for the season ahead!
